New Shape Stick Replaces a Classic, But Falls Short

[I received this product in exchange for my honest review] My first impression of the Teint Idole Shape Stick was all about the packaging. With its slanted millennial pink tube, it looks much more modern in photos than the understated, black and gold of their classic Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundatio...n Stick. In person, however, it's disappointing. It feels incredibly lightweight, lacking the substantial feel you expect from a high-end brand. Even the cap feels insecure; it stays on with friction alone rather than a satisfying physical or magnetic click. For something meant to be tossed in a makeup bag for travel, I constantly worry it's going to pop off and make a mess. The stick format is supposed to be the main selling point — less messy than a liquid and more hydrating than a powder. While the lightweight plastic makes it convenient for on-the-go use, this component crosses the line into feeling like corner-cutting. Combine that with a measly 0.31 oz of actual product, and it just doesn't feel substantial enough for a daily base. Lancome markets this as a shape stick, pushing its versatility as a concealer, contour and foundation in one. This marketing pivot is especially relevant right now as the original Teint Idole foundation stick is running out of stock almost everywhere, signaling that it is likely being discontinued. If this new shape stick is truly replacing the old formula as the brand's sole stick option, fans of the original are going to immediately notice the differences. As for the formula itself, the fragrance-free shape stick feels noticeably more buttery than the older foundation stick, which was stiffer and waxier by comparison. The coverage is a more sheer medium compared to the original's full opacity. You can build it up to use as a concealer, which makes the "multi-use" claim accurate, but applying it heavily all over the face looks too thick unless you specifically need a completely blank canvas for photos. While the buttery texture is great for those who want to avoid a dry looking application, the trade-off is longevity. I found that the stiffer formula of the old stick stayed put much better, whereas this new version smudges more easily. This new formula feels like a step down from the classic Lancome foundation stick. While the buttery formula offers some nice versatility for spot-concealing or a quick natural base, the flimsy packaging and reduced staying power simply doesn' don't reflect the high standard I've come to expect from the Teint Idole range.
