Sweet, Youthful and Long-Lasting, But Missing Some Depth

[I received this product in exchange for my honest review] I love lightly sweet gourmand scents and was excited to sample Bonbon Berry Jelly with two of my favorite notes, raspberry and blackcurrant. I was prepared for a straightforward, maybe even simple, and delightfully sweet candy scent (this is... Bonbon after all!). My initial impression was surprised that it did not have fresh or sweet and tart notes but rather a blend of synthetic fruity notes that call to mind mall stores in the Y2K era. This is not to say it's not a nice smell, but something melded and lacking realistic, individual notes or scent development is not expected from a designer brand. There isn't a distinctive top, middle, base, and the scent remains rather linear. Projection is just enough, and you will enjoy wafts of your own scent throughout the wear time. It lasts surprisingly long too. I can detect it without trying 7 hours later. Though you may wish to layer it to give it more intrigue and depth. It would pair well with vanilla, white musk and amber notes to give it more depth and body. Overall, I would recommend other similar Viktor and Rolf over this including Pretty Peony and the original Bonbon. It may appeal to those who enjoy straightforward, fruity-sweet fragrances rather than fragrances that emphasize hyperrealism or complex note development. At the price point, which is in line with other layering perfumes at Ulta, you have more developed options, but this remains valid for collectors of Bonbon or those who can't resist a lovely pink bottle on their shelves. Despite my personal scent preferences, I see why many would enjoy Bonbon Berry Jelly for its cheerful, youthful and nostalgic character.
