Step 1. Mix
In a plastic bowl, mix the pre-measured Powder and Developer until smooth and fully blended. Use only the components included in this single-use kit. Do not mix with other lightening products or mix multiple kits in the same bowl at once.
Step 2. Test
Before full application, it is essential to perform a strand test on hair and to complete a patch test on skin if applying to the scalp.
For a strand test, apply a small amount of lightener to a section of hair on the back/underneath and process for 30-50 minutes. Rinse and assess the condition of the hair. If it feels overly stretchy or cotton-like, do not proceed.
For a patch test, apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and process for 30--50 minutes. If irritation occurs, avoid scalp application.
Step 3. Prep
Start with clean and completely dry hair. Always wear gloves before you begin the application process.
Step 4. Apply
Section hair into four parts by dividing down the middle and across from crown to ear. Using your hands or a brush, begin applying the GDY Lightening Kit to the bottom and middle sections first, starting about 1 inch away from the roots. Fully saturate each section working up the head.
Pro Tip: Heat from the scalp causes lightener to process faster. Apply to the roots last, once the rest of the hair is about two levels away from your desired color to help avoid hot roots. Fully saturate the hair and cover with it plastic wrap to keep the lightener from drying out. Protect your hairline and ears with shea butter, coconut oil, or thick conditioner.
Step 5. Process
Allow hair to process for up to 50 minutes, checking every 5-10 minutes until your desired lift is achieved.
Step 6. Rinse
Rinse thoroughly with warm water, then shampoo and condition until all product is removed.
Step 7. Wait
If your hair has not reached your desired level of lightness after 50 minutes, wait at least 24 hours before lightening again.
Step 8. Color
Before applying GDY Semi-Permanent Hair Color, ensure hair is completely dry. Then, you're ready for color!
Powder Lightener: Potassium Persulfate, Sodium Silicate, Ammonium Persulfate, Solanum Tuberosum Starch, Sodium Stearate, Oryza Sativa Starch, Ethylhexyl Pelargonate, Xanthan Gum, Edta, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Silica, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice.
Crème Developer: Water (Aqua), Hydrogen Peroxide, Decyl Oleate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Acrylates/Ceteth-20 Itaconate Copolymer, Disodium Edta, Etidronic Acid, Peg-40 Castor Oil, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Potassium Phosphate, Butylated Hydroxyanisole, and Citric Acid.

Yeeted my mistaken low expectations out of the universe!
I'll be upfront. I do not have any high expectations, for any lightening products available to non-professionals (like myself). They're all about the same tier, as far as I remember at least. However, it HAS been a WHILE since I ever took bleach to my own hair with my own hands, as I normally leave ...

I had high hopes
so I have used good dye young color before and it was nice. but this fried my hair and destroyed my ends. I made sure everything was fully saturates but the lighted areas still came out super patchy

My favorite bleach on the market. I've tried all different brands of boxed bleach and this is the one that sticks. It can be a litte expensive compared to other brands, but the quality is worth it. It lightens well and doesn't smell bad. I've tried it on my natural hair and have used it on hair thats been dyed with semi permanent color, and the results are consistent. I wish I tried this sooner.
Least Painful bleach on the market

Big fan! I hate bleaching my hair because I'm a wuss and I hate pain but this bleach has by far been the easiest to use so far. Both in terms of difficulty to put on and how little it makes me want to cry.
Amazing quality bleach!
This bleach is on par with salon quality bleach ive had used on me! (My aunt is a hair dresser and usually does my blonde touch ups.) This amazed me at how well it lifted my hair!!! I was able to get my hair up to pale ash blonde, after using the purple dye posit conditioner as a toner agter using this bleach. I was also very satisfied at how much product was in the box I have medium length hair and was able to do my whole head with one box of this product. Really reslly good! If you want salon level lifting at home, this is the bleach to use! Great job hailey!!!

As someone who was too scared to bleach their own hair for years- I LOVE THIS KIT! I do wish it had a larger option though.

How soon can you swim in a chlorine or salt water pool once the hair has been bleached or dyed?
- Asked by Chantelle
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThanks for reaching out. Our in-house stylist recommends waiting a week for both. This will give the hair time to hydrate before being dried out again by a pool. However, there’s always a possibility for a chlorinated pool to change the color of the lightener, and turn it green. This happens because the chlorine oxidizes any copper in the pool and has the ability to absorb into the hair. If this occurs, do a detoxifying shampoo, then a purple shampoo, then a hair mask to replenish moisture. Was this answer helpful to you

Is this bleach or just color lifter? Im planning on dyeing my hair purple but I dont wanna use bleach, if possible
- Asked by A
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThe GDY Lightening Kit is a pre-measured kit with a 25-volume Crème Developer with one packet of Powder Lightener (hair bleach). In general, virgin hair (hair that has never been pre-lightened or dyed) is the strongest and least porous hair and therefore, color payoff will be more subtle. We understand pre-lightening is not the path for everyone for many different reasons. If you have dark hair, here are some colors that may work for you. We always recommend a strand test, to ensure your results meet your expectations. Level 7: Make It Happen will be a soft, dark purple. PPL Eater will create a purple-tinted brown. Level 6: Make It Happen will create a dark dusty purple. Nasty will add a dark, blue-ish purple tint. Level 5: Make It Happen will create a dark brown, deep tinted purple. Was this answer helpful to you

If I have previously bleached hair/highlights but want to use this to re-bleach, will I be able to remove it with red in my hair? I plan on switching from a dark red to a bright red.
- Asked by Pink Fruit
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageFor subtle shifts, like dark red to light red, we recommend a bleach wash. To achieve this, mix together the full Lightening Kit + 3-4 pumps of shampoo + refill the developer bottle with water. Apply to damp hair. Let this process until the desired lightness is achieved, but keep it under 50 minutes for hair health. We hope this helps you achieve your desired results and dream hair! You can always reach out to us directly for personalized advice. Happy DYEing! Was this answer helpful to you

Is this safe to use on eyebrows? I just bleached my brows and love it. I want to buy a product I can get multiple uses out of without giving myself chemical burns.
- Asked by AlliK
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThanks for asking! While our products are formulated to be gentle and nourishing, we cannot recommend GDY color or lightening products for eyebrows or eyelashes, as we do not test for these areas. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
How many boxes would someone with long, thick hair need?
- Asked by sara
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThis depends on whether you are doing a small section or your entire head. If you’re just doing a small section, 1-2 Lightening Kits should be enough. An entire head could require between 2-5 Lightening Kits. If your hair is mid-back and thick, we recommend 5 Lightening Kits. Just remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry and have extra on hand just in case. We suggest mixing one bottle and one packet at a time, that way if you don’t need the others you can save them for your next lightening session. Was this answer helpful to you

I have mostly grey hair that is dyed dark brown. Is this product safe to lighten my hair a few shades so I can re-dye it a lighter shade of brown?
- Asked by Too Dark
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThank you for reaching out. Depending on the type of dye that was used, you can use a lightening product to lift pre-dyed hair. If a metallic dye or henna was used, we do not recommend applying any lightener. It can be difficult to remove metallic and henna dyes, and may react poorly with other hair color products and lighteners. If it was a regular dye, rather box or professional, it is safe to apply a lightener over top of. We recommend you check consistently (every 5-10 minutes) to evaluate the color lift, and leave it on for no more than 30-minutes .If your roots are natural, or undyed, apply to mids and ends first, and then to your roots. - Q
Is this product safe enough for on scalp application if you have somewhat sensitive skin?
- Asked by Kevin B
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageOur Lightening Kit contains a 25 Volume Creme Developer so that your hair is left in good condition while offering just the right amount of lift to achieve lighter results. While this bleach is less harsh, we always recommend doing a patch test by using the following method: Choose a small area of skin roughly the size of a penny for the test. We recommend the wrist or inner elbow due to the skins texture in these areas. Wash the test area with water and soap and dab dry with a clean towel. Place a thin coating of the mixed lightener on the area. Leave on test area for about 30-minutes Examine the test area for any signs of irritation. If there is a negative reaction, then the product should not be used by that person under any circumstances. Was this answer helpful to you
